Hon. James Ndahiro and Hon. Hajabakiga Patricia with university staff after the discussion on EAC Integration.

This Tuesday 19th April 2016, members of The East African Legislative Assembly were in Nyarugenge Campus discussing the opportunities that are in The East African Community for entrepreneurs and innovators. The East Africa Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organization of six Partner States, comprising Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

In his remarks Hon. James Ndahiro told the audience how EAC has opened opportunities through the Customs Union, Common Market, and the upcoming strategic plan of The East African Monetary Union and The Political Federation.

We are moving faster in economic growth and development where the EAC Partner States maintain a moderated position towards the Freedom of movement for all the factors of production and the rights of the beneficiary citizens between themselves. He added

Normally, let our diversity become our strength and opportunities to enrich our countries, region and Africa in general. He concluded

The comparison of the opportunities available in the East African Community are endless e.g. the Free Movement of Goods , free movement of Persons, Free Movement of Services and the Right of Residence. We can assume that all staff and innovative students would make the region no longer the source of unemployment but instead create jobs. Said Hon. Hajabakiga Patricia

What we want from you is to be among the regional entrepreneurs and businessmen, but we cannot achieve this unless we read and seek information, create and innovate. She added

In her conclusion she told the students that the region has consolidated the youth throughout entrepreneurship, youth ambassadors, and youth forums.

Nshimiyumuremyi Emmanuel, a student in Nyarugenge Campus said that he is going to use opportunities in the EAC and the region in general by making innovations and creativeness to benefit from the common market.
