Call for Art Competition

Theme: “The Power of Creativity: Green Energy for Tomorrow”

Introduction

The GREATER Project announces an Art Competition open to all, aiming to raise awareness about renewable energy and its vital role in building a sustainable future. This initiative encourages students, youth, women, refugees, and persons with special needs to showcase their artwork on green energy in everyday life, especially in developing and emerging countries.

The competition theme is:

"The Power of Creativity: Green Energy for Tomorrow"

Overview of the GREATER Project

The GREATER (“Growing Rwanda Energy Awareness Through highER education”) Project (Ref number: 10108308 - GREATER - ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE) is funded by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ programme.
 The project is a collaboration between four Rwandan institutions:
 - INES-Ruhengeri
 - Rwanda Polytechnic
 - University of Technology and Arts of Byumba
 - University of Rwanda
 
 And four European institutions:
 - University of Parma, Italy
 - National Research Council, Italy
 - Hochschule Niederrhein, Germany
 - Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Germany
 
 Started on January 1, 2023, the three-year project has an expected EU contribution of up to €800,000.
 Key activities include:
 - Staff mobility
 - Review and enhancement of the Advanced Diploma in Renewable Energy Technology
 - Development of Living Labs—real-life environments open to communities and equipped with smart renewable-energy power stations.
 
 These Living Labs serve both as hands-on learning sites for students and as community hubs to promote awareness and adoption of green technologies.

 - Short Video Clips

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone residing in Rwanda, including temporary residents.
 Students are especially encouraged to participate.

Submission Criteria

The artwork should reflect the impact of renewable energy sources—solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal—in building a greener world, aligned with the GREATER Project's goals.

Awards & Recognition

For each category:
 - First Place: 250,000 RWF
 - Second Place: 100,000 RWF
 - Third Place: 50,000 RWF
 - Honourable Mentions (4th–8th place): Certificate of Excellence

Registration & Submission

All entries must be registered and submitted via the GREATER Project website:
 www.greaterproject.eu/art
 
 - Opening date: 15th May 2025
 - Deadline: 15th July 2025
 
 Submissions after the deadline will not be considered.

Submission Guidelines

For Digital Photography:
 - Accepted formats: JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PDF
 - Minimum dimensions: 1920 pixels
 - Minimum resolution: 180 dpi
 
 For Video Clips:
 - Accepted formats: MP4, MOV
 - Minimum resolution: 720p
 - Videos with speech or text must be in English or include English subtitles
 
 General Rules:
 - Any identifiable individual in the artwork must provide written consent.
 - No copyrighted material unless open-source (must be acknowledged).
 - File naming: "GREATER Art Competition - [Your Full Name]"
 - Submit a short description (100–200 words) including title and concept

Evaluation Procedure

The evaluation will be conducted by a judging panel consisting of:
 - One representative from each GREATER partner institution
 - Eight experts/artists nominated by Rwandan partners
 
 Evaluation Criteria:
 1. Creativity and innovation
 2. Relevance to the theme
 3. Technical quality
 4. Social and emotional impact

Terms and Conditions

- Submitted works may be used for promotional purposes related to the competition
 - Organizers reserve the right to disqualify non-compliant entries
 - GREATER Project reserves the right to the artwork after submission for promotional use
 - Any instance of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification
 - Winning works will be showcased at GREATER events, on social media, and in exhibitions

Important Dates

- 15th May 2025: Registration and submission open
 - 15th July 2025: Submission deadline
 - 1st September 2025: Winners announced
 - 25th September 2025: Awarding Ceremony
