A delegation from the World Bank conducted a half-day visit to the university of Rwanda’s centres of excellence to assess the achievements experiences and success stories. The Vice Chancellor Prof Cotton officially opened the meeting.
In his opening remark; Prof Cotton said that the centres should be “models to bring changes that will make University of Rwanda a core producer of knowledge that directly impact on socio-economic development of Rwanda and Africa”.
Mr Yasser El- Gammal, the Country Manager for the World Bank Group in Rwanda congratulated the university of Rwanda for the achievement made so far especially in enrolling PhD and Masters students from across Africa.
Rwanda is one of the 8 participating countries in ACE II with following four (4) centres of Excellence;
African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) and
African Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) both hosted at the College of Science & Technology
African Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS), College of Education
African Centre of Excellence for Data Sciences (ACE-DS), College of Business & Economics
The team of the World Bank comprised of Mr Felipe Jaramillo, the World Bank Country Director for Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda and other World bank staff from Washington DC.
