Our project—Popular to Popular Transport Integration in Africa (POINT)—addresses the theme of equitable, affordable, and reliable access to livelihoods, services, leisure activities, and opportunities, as outlined in the VREF ARP-MAC call. It aims to shift research, policy, action, and investment towards prioritising popular-to-popular transport integration in urban and transportation planning in Africa, helping to make cities more accessible—especially for disadvantaged individuals and groups who rely on these systems for mobility, and as a source of livelihood.
POINT represents a transformative collaborative research initiative addressing critical mobility and accessibility challenges in African cities. Launched in January 2025, the project brings together researchers from leading institutions to investigate the integration of popular transport systems within urban and transportation planning frameworks.
