Bizimana is an Associate Professor of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Rwanda. His also affiliated a researcher at the Centre for Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Centre. He holds a degree of Master of Science in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Urban Planning and Management from ITC, the Netherlands; and a PhD in Geography from University of Rwanda in collaboration with University of Salzburg, Austria. His research interests embrace the iintegrated spatial analysis and spatial planning, urban planning and management, geospatial health, risk analysis and vulnerability assessment, and sites and settlements planning. He is involved in teaching of the of courses of Introduction to spatial planning, Methods and Techniques in Urban and Regional Planning, GIS for Urban and Regional Planning, Urbanisation, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and Research Proposal Writing, and in delivering the professional trainings with GIS applications. He is intensively involved in the supervision and assessment of the research projects in both undergraduate, Masters and PhD Programme. Bizimana has been involved in many multidisciplinary research. These include for example the UNEP Project: Rwanda from Post-Conflict to Environmentally Sustainable Development; and a consortium HEALTHY FUTURES Project funded by European Union for “mapping, examining and anticipating future risks of water-related vector-borne diseases in Eastern Africa”. He participated in USAID Funded Project for “Integrated Flood Modelling for Flood Hazard Assessment in Kigali City. Between 2014 and 2019, Bizimana was involved in elaboration of the Spatial Development Framework for Rwanda and in National Strategic Action Plan of the Spatial Development Framework for Rwanda in collaboration with University of Twente and UN-Habitat. Between 2018 and 2019, Bizimana has been involved in a Research Project for “Ecosystem Services and Land Degradation in Gishwati-Mukura Corridor, Rwanda, under the Research Grant Agreement-PAGoDA No: 81237746 signed between the University of Rwanda and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
