Dr. Mugerwa Theophile

Theophile Mugerwa holds BSc in Environmental Sciences, MSc in Geology, Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Exploration and PhD in Petroleum Geology. He held different positions in Mining Industry in Rwanda before joining the University in 2018. Apart from being Lecturer, he is also a visiting scientist at National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics, Italy, working on project entitled Integrated reconstruction of ice sheets dynamics in the late quaternary period.
Research interests:
(1) Paleoclimate and climate change
(2) Secular economy through biomass beneficiation
(3) Organic Petrography for biomass energy resources assessment
(4) Development of Activated Carbon for Water and Environmental Purification
(5) Basin analysis
Current Projects:
(1) Integrated reconstruction of Ice sheets dynamics in the late Quaternary Period in Artic under OGS, Italy, Trieste(only sediments analysis part)
(2) Beneficiation of travertine for cement application
(3) Development of activated carbon for environmental purification
(4) Vegetation dynamics in East Africa for the last 10Ka
