Bio:
Pierre Bakunzibake is Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the school of Engineering , UR-College of Science and Technology. He is also a Lecturer in the same Department, and in postgraduate programmes (School of ICT, ACE-IoT and the Regional Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering and eHealth-CEBE) at University of Rwanda. Pierre has supervised a number of master’s students and he is currently co-supervising two Ph.D. students in the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACE-IoT). He published a number of research works in the area of Information systems and got conference papers in other areas of interest. His research interests include Information Systems, e-Government, IoT, AI, and Big Data Analytics. Dr. Pierre is an expert in Information Systems specifically in e-Government (use of ICT in public administration to streamline and integrate government processes, to enhance public service delivery, to manage data and information effectively, to expand communication channels for engaging and empowering people and to improve relationships between government, citizens, businesses, other arms of government). He is passionate about digital transformation and problem solving in both the public and private sectors. In 2021, Pierre worked as a consultant of European Commission in a project on Rwanda ICT Policies, Strategies at central government level and Plans at local government level. He also participated in the development of Rwanda STEM education Strategy and in the development of development of the ICT 4 Governance Cluster Strategy 2020-2024 for Rwanda. In relation to practice in Information Systems/e-Government, his qualifications and skills include designing, developing, evaluating and managing projects related to e-Government information systems. He is currently contributing to the Development of Smart Rwanda Master Plan II and Innovation Strategy towards a more advanced ICT and Innovation sector in Rwanda.
Pierre holds a PhD degree in Informatics (Information Systems) from the Örebro University School of Business, Sweden and holds a master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the former National University of Rwanda, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra Ranchi, India. He started academic career in Computer Engineering in 2004.
