Janvier Habinshuti is a native of Rwanda and a graduate of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium with a Master of Science in Molecular Biology (Sciences and Bioengineering Sciences). In Kigali, Rwanda, he is currently a lecturer at the University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology. Janvier has more than ten years of professional experience, and his areas of interest include natural products, food chemistry, and microbiology, In particular, to find novel natural compounds derived from microbial communities that could be the source of the bulk of chemotherapeutic drugs utilized in modern medicine.
He has received fellowships and awards from the Government of Rwanda, the Merit Scholarship program (2006–2009), and the VLIR-UOS awards scholarship (Belgium) for the master’s program (2012-2015). More than ten scientific publications that he wrote or co-wrote were published in respected journals with Science Citation Indexes.
With more than ten years of experience in the field, Janvier’s specialties and skill sets include grant writing, program management, program evaluation, management of research, and leadership in higher education.
