Bio:
Mr Bernard Nsanzimana is an academician, researcher, consultant, legal practitioner and activist with interests in built environment, property and natural resources governance.
Bernard joined the academia as a visiting lecturer in 2007 with private universities (IPB/UTAB and RTUC/UTB), before shifting to the former Kigali Institute of Science and Technology/KIST (Current College of Science and Technology/CST, University of Rwanda/UR), in 2013, at Assistant Lecturer academic rank, teaching Principles of Law, Contract Law, Tort Law, Commercial and Property Law, Land Law, Mining Law and Land Policy modules. He has also served different governmental institutions, between 2009 and 2013, before joining UR, including the Ministry of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA) and the National Capacity Building Secretariat (NCBS), as a legal adviser.

Since 2015, Mr Bernard worked on different research and consultancy projects in land, property, mining and gender areas with different clients, local and international, governmental and private, including the former DfID (current FCDO), Carleton University and IMPACT, Pact World, Cardno UK, BDO UK, GIZ Rwanda, Rwanda Mines, Petrol and Gas Board (RMB) and others. He has so far published an article in the Canadian Journal of African Studies (2020) and a Book Chapter in the same journal (2022).

With regards to community outreach endeavours and as an activist, Mr Bernard founded the Great Lakes Initiative for Transparent, Accountable and Responsible Mining (GLITARM) and co-founded the Rwanda Women In&And Mining Organization (WIAMO), for a friendly cohabitation of mining and communities, land owners, women and other vulnerable groups.

Mr Bernard holds an LLM in Business Law (2008-2009), an LLB in Public and Private Law (2002-2006) and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (2014-2015). He works in English, French, Swahili and Kinyarwanda.
