Bio:
Dr Jean NTAGANDA, is a PhD holder in organic chemistry from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Moscow. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry/ University of Rwanda. In 1996 he completed the course of PhD training in the speciality “Organic Chemistry”, where he especially worked on heterocyclic compounds and obtained the degree of PhD. He also holds a “diploma of a researcher” obtained during his postgraduate studies at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. His research interest deals with compounds found in nature (natural products) that usually have pharmacological or biological activity for use in pharmaceutical drug discovery and drug design. After finishing his studies in 1996, he worked from 1996 to the end of 1999 as Deputy Director of SAKIRWA Industry (Soap and Cosmetic Industry), Kigali/Rwanda. From November 1999, he started the work as a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda (NUR). In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer. He holds certificates obtained from various trainings: certificate for the participation at the first international training at Mons-Hainaut University (Belgium), 2000. The thematic area was : “Pédagogie et qualité du fonctionnement des institutions universitaires”; certificate of the training in the United States of America (2001) under UMD-NUR partnership project: the training focused on the process of developing skills and competencies for the human resources of NUR distance learning center; certificate obtained from TRANSFER AUF-NUR training at NUR: “Technologies éducatives: création et gestion d’un cours interactif et multimedia pour un enseignement ouvert et à distance” (2003); certificate obtained from the Workshop on Proposal Writing for Natural and Applied Scientists, Engineers and Technologists organized by the National University of Rwanda (NUR), Research Directorate in collaboration with the International Foundation for Science held at NUR (2012); training certificate for the supervision of doctoral students (PhD students) organized by the University of Rwanda in collaboration with Swedish partners (2018); Certificate for participation in a training seminar: “Active teaching techniques”, offered by faculty from Columbia University in the United States coordinated by the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity & Natural Resource Management, University of Rwanda. Dr Jean Ntaganda has over 25 years of professional experience and his areas of expertise and skills include: leadership in higher education, grant writing, management of research.
